About Submer
Submer enables organizations scaling AI to overcome the limits of traditional datacenters across power, compute density and efficiency.
We design and deliver scalable, high-density AI datacenter infrastructure built around industry-leading liquid cooling, supporting everything from early AI deployments to full-scale production environments.
Acting as a full-stack delivery partner, Submer provides advisory, design, build and IT integration through a single point of accountability, working with a deep ecosystem of technology specialists. This end-to-end approach accelerates time-to-AI while reducing operational cost, complexity and environmental impact.
The result is AI infrastructure that performs today, scales predictably and avoids the redesigns and inefficiencies slowing the market down.
Your Impact
You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical building systems for mission-critical facilities, including data centers, technical spaces, and high-performance infrastructure projects. This inludes HVAC, hydronic systems, ventilation, piping, and mechanical utilities, ensuring designs meet performance, efficiency, safety, and code requirements.
This role reports to the head of Design and Built and supports both new construction and retrofit projects, from conceptual design through commissioning and costing.
What you’ll do
· Lead mechanical system design for HVAC, chilled water systems, air distribution, ventilation, and other mechanical building systems for mission-critical facilities.
· Develop technical specifications, load calculations, mechanical layouts, 3D models, and construction drawings in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
· Perform thermal load calculations, fluid flow analysis, and equipment sizing (chillers, pumps, CRAHs/CRACs, heat exchangers, piping networks, etc.). Review / carryout the CFD analysis.
· Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, NFPA, local building codes).
· Collaborate closely with electrical, structural, controls, and architectural teams to integrate mechanical systems into coordinated facility designs.
· Review and support submittals, shop drawings, procurement packages, and equipment selections.
· Oversee field investigations, site surveys, construction support, and commissioning for mechanical systems.
· Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical systems during start-up, testing, and operational phases.
· Mentor junior mechanical engineers, conducting technical reviews and providing guidance on best practices.
· Support continuous improvement of internal design standards, QA/QC procedures, and documentation.
· Assess and evaluate emerging HVAC and mechanical technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency in facility designs.
What you’ll need
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
· 10+ years of MEP mechanical engineering experience, preferably in data centers.
· Strong knowledge of HVAC design, hydronic systems, air distribution, and mechanical utilities.
· Proficiency in MEP design tools and CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar) and engineering analysis software (e.g., Trace, HAP, CFD tools).
· Solid understanding of ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and MEP best practices.
· Experience with construction administration, field inspections, and commissioning.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior engineers.
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing project demands.
· Willingness to travel for site assessments, construction support, and commissioning activities.
