About Submer
At Submer, we are redefining how data centers are built, integrated, and operated, with sustainability, efficiency, and innovation at the core. Our technology is designed to reduce environmental impact while improving performance and efficiency. We are a purpose-driven company with a passion for innovation and a growing global presence.
What impact you will have
We are seeking a Data Center MEP Design Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of end-to-end MEP systems - electrical, mechanical, and fire protection - in high-density environments. The objective is to ensure a safe, reliable, and scalable power and cooling infrastructure: from substation/transformer systems, MV/LV distribution, busbars and rack PDUs, to precision cooling, chilled-water pipe loops, CDUs, and liquid-cooling solutions such as TCS; as well as fire detection and suppression, and integration with BMS/EMS. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in mission-critical MEP infrastructure, optimizes metrics such as PUE/WUE, and thrives in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments, supporting mission-critical workloads and next-generation computing platforms.
What you’ll do
Leadership & Scope
- Lead the MEP discipline: planning, technical quality, budgets/schedules, and team mentorship.
- Serve as the technical face of the company with clients: defend the design, explain the what/how, and coordinate workshops, design reviews, and value engineering.
- Manage internal/external stakeholders, RFP/ER requirements, scope changes, and risks.
MEP Design, Integration & Delivery (Electrical/Mechanical/Fire Protection/Controls)
- Define the end-to-end MEP architecture: substation/transformer, MV/LV, busbars/PDUs; precision HVAC, chilled-water networks, CDUs and liquid cooling (TCS/DLC/RDHx); detection and suppression; BMS/EMS/DCIM; sequences of operation.
- Size capacity and resilience (N+1/2N), select protection devices and curves, and align electrical distribution with cooling and operational requirements.
- Set thermal strategies and setpoints (e.g., dew-point/condensation control), hydraulics (pressure drop, NPSH), and economization.
- Embed codes and HSE (IEC/IEEE/NFPA/ASHRAE/EN/local, LOTO, accessibility, maintainability).
- Plan and execute FAT/iFAT/SAT and Cx Levels 1–5; integrated testing and acceptance criteria; produce as-builts, O&M, and training plans.
Performance Optimization & Reliability
- Monitor power quality and thermal performance; data-driven analysis for PUE/WUE and voltage/temperature regulation.
- Lead RCA (root-cause analysis) and corrective actions; propose design/operational improvements to boost reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure conformity with applicable codes/standards and best practices.
- Maintain technical documentation: design reports, requirements matrices, test plans, validation reports, and O&M manuals.
OEM Collaboration & Commercial Support
- Coordinate with OEMs (UPS, generators, transformers, chillers, CDUs, TCS/DLC, detection/suppression, BMS/EMS) from specification through validation.
- Support technical proposals, SOWs, RFP clarifications, and techno-economic comparisons.
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
- 8+ years in data center or mission-critical MEP design/operations, including 3+ years in a lead, client-facing, or owner-rep role.
- End-to-end MEP expertise: MV/LV power (substation/transformers, switchgear, UPS, generators, busways/PDUs); precision HVAC & chilled-water networks; CDUs and liquid cooling (TCS/DLC/RDHx); fire detection & suppression (e.g., VESDA, preaction/clean agents); and controls (BMS/EMS/DCIM).
- Proven ability to defend and explain designs to customers, run design reviews/workshops/value-engineering, and manage multi-stakeholder alignment.
- Proficiency with design/analysis tools: ETAP/SKM/EasyPower (or equivalent), AutoCAD/Revit/BIM; familiarity with hydraulic/thermal modeling (e.g., AFT Fathom/PipeFlow, CFD) is a plus.
- Strong command of codes & standards: IEC/IEEE/NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE TC 9.9, EN 50600, and applicable local regulations.
- Hands-on commissioning: FAT/iFAT/SAT, Cx Levels 1–5, integrated systems testing; ability to author SLDs/P&IDs and sequences of operation.
- Track record optimizing PUE/WUE and system reliability; power-quality/thermal monitoring; data-driven RCA and corrective actions.
- Experience specifying and managing OEMs/vendors across UPS, generators, transformers, switchgear, chillers, CDUs, TCS/DLC, detection/suppression, and BMS/EMS.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, executive-ready presentations, and effective collaboration across electrical, mechanical, controls, IT, and operations teams.
